Every project should have an evaluation plan. It allows to assess whether the project has achieved its objectives, whether it can be considered a success, and whether lessons can be learned. The introduction of a project evaluation system enables institution to continuously report its achievements learn from its experience and continuously improve its work.
Project evaluation can be carried out to different degrees: it can be a simple internal monitoring or it can be a detailed evaluation.
While monitoring allows for the continuous collection of data during the project to help assess whether the project has achieved its objectives and to continuously improve processes, evaluation assesses the larger changes that the project has led to.
Ongoing monitoring and subsequent evaluation are among the cornerstones of good participatory projects.
The collected data makes the work of project teams and participation organizers much easier – during and after the project. Thanks to the data, it is possible to face unexpected complications well, to communicate better with stakeholders and, last but not least, to learn from mistakes and to better plan subsequent or completely new projects.
