Sustainability and Inclusion Policy

Participation Factory is built on the values of inclusion, equity, participation, transparency, and sustainability.

Our company culture integrates our values in the most practical way as we exercise regular participatory activities, including regular retrospectives, feedback loops, and opportunities for creative cooperation. Our team also strongly supports LGBTQIA+ and women’s rights and works to create safe and empowering environment for queer people and women within our team, our partners, and beneficiaries. We are especially proud to have women including a queer woman in leadership positions and to have a women-majority team.

Our work in the field of public participation and community engagement has an unalienable focus on social inclusion and improvement of well-being of all through cooperation, consensus-building, and co-creation of sustainable solutions both on communal and government institutional levels.

Within our project we aim to create sustainable models for cooperation between government, stakeholders, and a local community. One of our flagship services is creation of participation infrastructure. It ensures that the best practices, skills developed, and projects continue to benefit a local community in the future and become an integral part of the local governance rather than have a risk of fading away with the change of the local government officials and politicians.

One of the key values of public participation is acquisition of the relevant data on the needs, preferences, and challenges of the local community. This data helps to avoid and better mitigate possible conflicts, maximise the quality of decision-making, and subsequently, safe valuable resources on implementation of the best fitted solution while also increasing transparency and political buy-in of the participants and the local community at large.

Overall, Participation Factory adheres to the values and goals laid out in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and we position our work within the following SDGs:

  • SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities – By 2030, empower and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all
  • SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities – By 2030, enhance inclusive and sustainable urbanization and capacity for participatory, integrated and sustainable human settlement planning and management
  • SDG 16: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels – Develop effective, accountable and transparent institutions at all levels ensure responsive, inclusive, participatory and representative decision-making at all levels

Since our projects often include international component and focus on exchange between actors we also include this SDG as a part of our focus ones: SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals.
